Abstract: | During 1985, CSR Limited carried out exploration for gold within Exploration Licence 4734 as part of a regional programme. The programme consisted of bulk stream sediment sampling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys, rock-chip sampling and geological mapping. Thirty-two bulk stream sediment samples were collected at a sampling density of one sample per three line kilometres of drainage. The samples were classified into three groups according to the reactive iron, carbon and quartz contents. Threshold values were calculated for each group. Twenty-seven closer-spaced bulk stream sediment samples were collected from anomalous drainages . These follow-up samples were collected at a density of one sample per 500m of drainage. Two anomalous drainages were defined by this more detailed sampling. An aeromagnetic survey was completed over the area but was not successful in defining areas of Zamu Dolerite. This was due to the intimate association of the Zamu IDolerite with the strongly magnetic Koolpin Formation. Fifty-four rock-chip samples were collected from within the Exploration Licence. Five samples contained anomalous gold. Further work is recommended. The two anomalous drainages defined by the bulk stteam sediment survey warrant further investigation by geological mapping, rock-chip sampling, soil sampling and closer spaced stream sediment sampling. Further rock-chip sampling should be completed in three of the locations where rock-chip samples contained anomalous gold. |
