Quarterly report on EL 972 for periods ending 7 February 1980 and 7 May 1980

Abstract

During the previous and present periods, work has been carried out on statistical analysis covering a range of elements, from stream sediment geochemical results of surveys conducted by the Bureau of Mineral Resources. Reports on these surveys were released late in 1979. Because of the large amount of data involved only the area of EL 972 and immediately surrounding areas was analysed in this way. Statistical analysis was applied to drainage samples from: Nicholson Granite Complex, Cliffdale Volcanics and Westmoreland Conglomerate. Quite widely different background threshold geochemical levels were established for these three major geological units. However, detailed mapping by the BMR (Seigal 1:100,000 Sheet area) has demonstrated that each of the above major units can be sub divided into several sub units. The effect of averaging the geochemical levels of several sub units into each of the major gross units, is not known at this stage.
