dc.description.abstract | Exploration in Exploration License 3 is being carried out under an agreement between Dampier Mining Company Limited and the late Mrs. Stevens and Mesdames Chomley and Craven. Dampier began field work on 17th October, 1973 and continued until 21st November 1973 when the Wet Season began. An airborne magnetometer/spectrometer survey was flown in October/November 1973. The survey was flown by Aero Services Ltd at 200m line spacing and 90m terrain clearance using an 18,500 ccs crystal spectrometer. An approximate total of 1500 line kilometers were flown. A total of 6,000 meters of magnetic and radiometric traverses were read at 50 meter intervals. Instruments used were the Geometrics Proton Magnetometer, and the Scintrex BGS-1E5 scintillometer. Mapping was done along 6,000 meters of grid lines and general geological reconnaissance was carried out. A review of the results obtained from the aerial magnetometer/spectrometer survey was undertaken during the Wet Season to evaluate the data received and to delineate anomalous areas requiring follow-up work in the 1974 field season. The contracting firm supplied total count and uranium contour maps and contoured aeromagnetic maps. The results obtained are virtually uninterpretable due to the amount of laterite on the surface, and no meaningful graphs resulted. The area mapped consists of a series of north/south striking quartzite ridges of the Mount Partridge Formation. These ridges are short and sharp and the dip varies from vertical to steeply dipping to the east and west. Between these ridges are broad flat areas extensively covered with laterite and sediments of Cainozoic or Mesozoic age. Three radiometric anomalous areas were outlined for investigation during the coming field season. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | The following personnel were employed on the Exploration License during the year; 1 geophysicist, 1 geologist and 1 assistant prospecting hand. Contractors consisted of;aerial geophysical crew and 1 team of surveyors. An airborne magnetometer/spectrometer survey was flown in October/November 1973.
