| dc.description.abstract | Mineral occurrences in the Victoria Basin stratigraphy and overlying rocks were reviewed. The Bullita Group contains minor galena, chalcopyrite and manganese minerals. Galena occurs in carbonate rocks of the Banyan Formation but no concentrations are known. There is a minor lead prospect just north of the junction of Flora River and Banyan Creek, in the Banyan Formation. This was not followed up. Specks of chalcopyrite are disseminated through at least on bed in the Bynoe Formation, but no concentrations have been reported. Barite veins are known in the Auvergne Group. Minor copper is associated with the Antrim Plateau Volcanics. A total of 2391 line km of airborne radiometrics and magnetic surveys were flown in September 1979. Seven areas of anomalous uranium were identified. In all cases bar one, they fall in the middle of a drainage channel. In March 1980, a helicopter inspection was undertaken and the uranium anomalies were found to be low-level uranium in ferruginous surfaces developed on sandstones. Potassium anomalies south of Flora River follow strike of the Banyan Formation and may indicate more argillaceous lithologies. In summary, there is little evidence in airborne data of economic concentration of structures which may carry mineralisation. | en_US |
