Annual report Mt. Ringwood

Abstract

Exploration Licence 5318 (Ringwood North) was granted to W.R. Grace (Australia) Limited on 26th March, 1987. Western Mining Corporation act as managers and operators of the E.L. as it forms part of the Mt. Ringwood Joint Venture. Exploration during the 1988 Dry Season was undertaken on the C2, C6, C7, C16, C17 and Cookys Corner prospects. This involved 13 R.C. percussion holes for 810m, one l00m diamond drill hole, 266 short airtrac percussion holes for 2607m, 2000 line metres of dipole-dipole I.P, a block of gradient-array I.P, 3.0km of ground magnetics, 830 metres of costeans, 154 soil samples plus detailed mapping and rock-chip sampling. The results of this programme have downgraded or eliminated several prospects whilst follow-up work is warranted on others. EL 5318 is almost entirely occupied by units of the Proterozoic Burrell Creek Formation, namely quartzo-feldspathic wackes, phyllites, siltstones and rare conglomerates of diverse provenance. The upright, generally north plunging Howley Anticline and subsidiary, parallel folds dominate the licence structurally. Stockwork and bucky, conformable quartz-sulphide veins have invaded hinge zones of most of the major folds and constitute most of the targets on the licence. The quartz poor Cookys Corner environment is yet to be fully understood. Expenditure on the E.L. during the reporting period was $152,632. This does not include expenditure on that part of EL 5318 held under MLN 1049.
