dc.description.abstract | EL 3144 ran for a full years years during which a resource of barite was located within the Bingy Bingy Basalt Member of the Antrim Plateau Volcanics. Previously, South Australian Barytes Pty Ltd had attempted to establish a viable resource of barite in a similar geological setting on EL 3239, 40 km to the east. EL 3144 was granted to A.J. and C.E. Turner in March 1981. Rathin Pty Ltd entered into an agreement with the leaseholders and acquired the services of B.E. Cornish and Associates (Antrim Corporation Ltd) to assess the potential of EL 3144. Two main lenticular barite vein systems were mapped. They are roughly parallel and approximately 1.5 km apart. Lees Creek Lode in the headwaters of Lees Creek is 4.7 km long and contains an estimated 289,908 tonnes of barite. The western, Forrest Creek Lode, is 6 km long and contains 261,039 tonnes; giving a total estimated resource of 550,947 tonnes to a depth of 20 m. This material is suitable to meet API Specification SG grade barite (average SG of samples is 4.271) and is believed to be amenable to open-cut mining. Further resources may exist under shallow cover. The report discusses potential marketing and end-use clients. | en_US |
