Cessation report on MLNs 40 and 42, Evelyn Mine, 20-02-1970 to 31-12-1990

Abstract

The MLNs cover the old Evelyn Ag-Pb-Zn mine and its southern extension. Mineralisation is located on an asymmetrical east-southeast plunging anticline with limestone, pelites, calcareous shales and quartzite of the lower Proterozoic Koolpin Formation. The ore occurs within a series of discordant en echelon fractures, mainly within the limestone and is comprised of galena and sphalerite in the primary zone. Work conducted by the JV mainly involved an extensive literature research programme which has revealed that much of the original geological data and some of the reports known to have been completed were lost. Previous work has identified nine separate lodes. There is an indicated reserve 7 420 tons at 342.9g-t Ag, 6.7% Pb and 3.7% Ag. From this work it was concluded that the Evelyn Lode system has limited potential to contain repetitions and extensions of base metal-gold-silver mineralisation, at depth. The strike extent of the Evelyn Lode system is restricted to the north and south by east-west trending faults.
