Activities relating to the wandie tenements were confined to brief field visits and a thorough review of all available information (see plate 1 and appendix one). Legal arguments mid year between Werrie Gold Pty Ltd and Concept Core Pty Ltd concerning inadvertently lapsed MCN's. led to a re-evaluation of not only the 'lost' MCN's but also the remaining tenements (MCM'S 943, 944, 942, 957). It was easily demonstrated that MCN's 947, 948 and 949 had so much previous trenching and drilling as to negate the possibility of an economic ore body being present. The remaining MCN's (942, 943, 944, 957) were investigated by M. Flood in July, 1996 (see Appendix one). Flood considered that the NCN's were unlikely to contain 'a total resource of over 100,000 tonnes'. His summary of previous exploration activities indicates that there is little room to move in the search for a large, low grade gold deposit. Additional drilling in one area could yield a small (less than 60,000 tonnes) resource of indeterminate grade, however this would certainly be uneconomic. The Aston Hill Prospect is part of the Wandie Group of prospects and is located 35 km East of Pine Creek. Access is via the Kakadu Highway to the Moline mine followed by 16 kms along a dirt track. The Wandie Group of prospects contain gold mineralisation reported to be associated with the sheared margins of sub-vertical axial planar and horizontal tension gash veins. This veining is hosted by graded mudstones, siltstones, and greywackes assigned to the Burrell Creek Formation. Sediments of the Aston Hill prospect include steeply dipping south west siltstones and greywackes. Mineralisation occurs as saddle reef style quartz veins and irregular ladder veins. The two styles of veining are reported to be spatially separated by a cross fault. Gold was discovered at Wandie in the early 1880's and since that date gold production has principally come from alluvial workings. The alluvial's have recently been worked by Aardeau and Rainford. In 1986 Lachian Resources explored the hard rock potential of the Wandie group of prospects with a program of channel samples from costeans and old workings. Eupene Exploration excavated and mapped costeans over the Aston Hill mineralisation (totalling 275m) and channel sampled veining. Although numerous zones recovering 0.1-0.5 g/t were recorded the only significant results reported were 8m @ 3.5 g/t and 3m @ 1.43 g/t.en_US
