Annual Report McArthur River Project 13 July 1990 to 12 July 1991.

Abstract

During the 12 months up to 12/07/1991 exploration for base metals has been carried out on a group of 9 exploration licences in the McArthur River area. These ELs are subject to a joint venture agreement between Noranda Pty Limited, Top End Resources NL and Perilya Mines NL and are classified as a single entity project area (the McArthur River Project Area) by the NT Department of Mines and Energy. They cover sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Proterozoic McArthur Basin, which host the HYC Pb-Zn deposit at McArthur River and numerous Cu, Pb and Zn occurrences throughout the district. 432 soil and 43 rock chip samples were collected from the Yalco prospect. The values received, (maximum soil assays of Cu 53ppm; Pb 83ppm; Zn 84ppm), are not strongly anomalous, however, they are all located near the western ends of the grid lines and are associated with occurrences of Emmerugga Dolomite and Barney Creek Formation. A TEM survey comprising 46.1 line kilometres was also undertaken over the Yalco Prospect and has delineated several targets.
