Olive Prospect is situated in Lower Proterozoic metasediments of the Golden Dyke Formation, Pine Creek Basin. It contains a significant lead zinc anomaly 1.6km long which lies on a major NNW trending linearment characterised by shear zones and quartz veining. The mineralisation appears to coincide with a trough like? structure outlined by metadolerite. Small cerussite bearing gossans have been found over the southern anomaly; whilst quartz veins containing fluorite, galena and pyrite are present in one costean. From all the costean assays in the main anomaly area (Gove, 1975) we calculated average values of 0.16% Pb and 0.10% Zn. In the costeans, mineralisation is most concentrated in shear zones. This suggests we are not dealing with a stratiform mineralised zone. Therefore, the potential for discovery of a large syngenetic orebody at this prospect is low. Further work should be based on the premise that the geochemical anomaly represents the surface expression of richer mineralisation at depth. The most likely target geometry is a steeply dipping tabular body striking NNW. To test this idea we recommend that the next stage of evaluation should be diamond drilling to intersect this zone.en_US
