This report was prepared by Mining Management Services Pty Ltd for Hilltop Enterprises Pty Ltd as part of its reporting requirements to the Northern Territory Department of Mines and Energy for Exploration Licences 3199 and 3200 located on the Fergusson River, 35kms south-east of Pine Creek. This report covers exploration carried out by Joint Venture Participants, Hilltop Enterprises Pty Ltd and Zapopan NL for the period 23 February 1987-23 February 1988. As EL's 3199 and 3200 are adjacent tenements with a common commencement date and term, this report treats the tenements jointly as parts of a single project. The Fergusson River Project area is located 22Okms south-east of Darwin and approximately 35kms south-east of Pine Creek. The bituminized all weather Stuart Highway passes through the project area approximately 2kms east of the Woolgni Prospect. There are a number of dirt tracks in the area but these are accessible only in the dry season. The Palm Valley-Darwin natural gas pipeline passes through the region approximately 1km east of the Stuart Highway and the Katherine power transmission line is located immediately adjacent to the Highway. There is a Telecom repeater station within the project area. The Fergusson River is a major drainage system and has permanent water holes within the project area. The objectives of the 1988 Exploration Programme were to further evaluate the hardrock gold potential of the Woolgni Goldfield and to investigate the possibility of additional gold deposits within the 26 square kin exploration licence area surrounding the old workings. The regional assessment began with a 123 rock chip sampling programme over areas with exposure of Burrell Creek Formation at a density of approximately 10.5 samples per square km. A total of four anomalous areas were outlined, the most significant of these the Tower Prospect. Nine excavator trenches were cut to expose bedrock within the Tower Prospect anomalous zones 279 channel samples were collected from 580 .6m of trenching, at the Tower Prospect.en_US
Further evaluation of the Woolgni began with the plane table mapping of the Woolgni workings by Jeff schields. A 100 x 50m levelled grid was established over the entire Woolgni Goldfield. This grid served as the reference for all further work at Woolgni. A total of 17 trenches were cut in the vicinity of the old Woolgni workings in a two phase excavator trenching programme. A total of 965.61m of trenching was carried out and 547 channel samples collected and assayed by fire assay for gold and by A.A.S for arsenic. The trenching and channel sampling programme was followed up by reverse circulation drilling. 26 holes and 1,791m of drilling was completed, the deepest hole being l2lm deep.en_US
