dc.description.abstract | Central Electricity Generating Board began exploration in the Rum Jungle area, primarily for uranium in 1986. This report discusses work on EL 4879, Mt Fitch, during the second year of tenure, from mid 1987 until mid 1988. Airborne interpretation and regional-scale surveys begun in 1986, were completed and detailed investigations were carried out near the boundary of the Rum Jungle Complex. In the Mt Pitch area ten percussion-collared diamond holes were drilled for a total of 270l.9 m. | en_US |

dc.description.geochemicalsampling | The Mt Fitch - Mt Burton area, which had been systematically sampled by TEP and Uranerz, was not re-sampled during the current program, except where major discrepancies were noted. Assay results from an extensive Uranezz auguer survey were plotted onto profiles and compared with the stratigraphic section already inferred from geophysical, outcrop and drillhole data. Rubidium assays from deep soil samples were found to reflect the subsurface geology, providing a very clear discrimination between the Coomalie Dolomite and surrounding units. Total base metal values (Cu, Pb, Zn, Co, Cr) and uranium highlighted a zone along the basal Coomalie Dolomite corresponding roughly to ironstone subcrop, with a less distinct peak near the inferred Whites/Coomalie contact. | en_US |
dc.description.drilling | Ten percussion-collared diamond holes were drilled in the Mt Fitch- Mt Burton area, for a total of 210l.9 m. Two boles, MFB 4 and MFB 6 collapsed during drilling and failed to reach target depth. For the remainder, drilling was concentrated on four sections north of the Mt Fitch sample pit, where uranium was found to be associated with highly brecciated, chioritic and pyritic units within the Co Dolomite. Deep weathering (to over 200 m) and chlorite, clay and limonite alteration were observed on most sect ions. The drilling, performed under contact by Gaden Drilling Pty Ltd of Batchelor using two Warman 1000 mobile rigs, was carried out in two phases. | en_US |
