Report on reconnaissance exploration under permit for ELA 5954 (Benda Bluff), ELA 9275 Collara Mountains) and ELA 5953 (Mount Lean), activities June 1996

Abstract

Limited reconnaissance exploration under permit was carried out within ELAs 5954 'Benda Bluff', 9273 'Collara Mountains and 5953 'Mt Lean'. 31 stream sediment samples were collected using a large spacing. Overall results were of low tenor, however maximum assay values reported for one sample were 45ppm Cu, 47ppm Zn, and 20ppm Pb. 13 gravel samples were collected and processed for kimberlitic indicator minerals. No positive results were received to date, however 6 samples are yet to be processed. Open file magnetic data was processed and three dipolar magnetic targets were followed up for diamondiferous kimberlitic diatremes, and loam samples were collected at two of these sites. A single non kimberlitic chromite was reported in only one loam sample from the southeastern portion of ELA 5953. despite the lack of positive results from the limited reconnaissance exploration activities under permit, the ELAs are still considered highly prospective for basemetal mineralisation and kimberlitic diatremes.
