Abstract

EL 8184 is located approximately 70 kilometres north north - west of Pine Creek on the Douglas Creek (14/3-I) 1:50,000 scale map sheet and the Mount Ringwood (14/3-IV) 1:50,000 scale map sheet. The licence area contains low-grade metasediments and metavolcanics of Lower Proterozoic age, which have been strongly folded and are capped by flat-lying Middle Proterozoic to Mesozoic psammitic rocks. The area has potential for large tonnage, low grade style of mineralisation in quartz stockworks or complex vein systems. The exploration licence was granted to Northern Territory Gold Mines N.L. on the 10th of December 1993 for a period of six years. The title was transferred to Territory Goldfields N.L, which is now managed by Northern Gold N.L., in December 1994. Exploration by Territory Goldfields N.L. has included research and data compilation. During the 1995/96 exploration season, Northern Gold N.L. completed a work program based on digital data acquisition and manipulation. Landsat Imagery, SPOT Imagery and AGSO mapping were obtained and used in conjunction with aerial mapping to determine the best method of gold exploration to be used on the licence. Regional and infill soil sampling is required to fully assess the mineralisation potential within the licence. The covenant for the 1995/96 year of tenure was $21,000 and the expenditure totaled $6,775. No field work was completed. Work limited to digital data acquisition and manipulation.
