Annual report on ELs 5359, 6633 and 6881 (Willeroo), for the period ending 21-08-1991

Abstract

Stockdale completed a programme of reconnaissance heavy mineral stream sediment and geochemical sampling during the reporting period. A total of 311 stream sediment samples were collected for heavy mineral analysis. Over 50% of the samples collected contained spinels. The majority of the spinels are believed to be derived from the Antrim Plateau Volcanics. Prior to the initiation of field work, a total of 10 TM anomalies and 26 airphoto anomalies were selected for further investigation. Two TM anomalies and 5 airphoto anomalies were found to be minor hills of the Antrim Plateau Volcanics. All other anomalies were sampled. Poseidon completed a programme of infill sampling for base metals. Where possible the old SPL sites were located and resampled in order to confirm the SPL results. Their work confirmed anomalies previously outlined by BHP and Stockdale and enlarged the area of anomalism. The anomalous Pb values are associated with the Tindall Limestone and Jinduckin Formation in the vicinity of the Dorisvale Fault.
