Abstract

Exploration has shown that the alluvial deposit are polycyclic. An early phase in which a thick layer of coarse, poorly sorted material was deposited grades of 0.6LCM have been obtained. Most of the gravels on the floor of the West Creek Channel are probably comprised of this material which has undergone compaction by laterization. The latter phase deposited a thinner better sorted layer of gravels. Good gold grades have been panned at the contact between the upper and lower gravels. The grade drops off as you go up into the later gravel phase (subeconomic). The volume of auriferous gravel is estimated at 150 000 BCM's.
