The geological work on EL 551 has been orientated towards the discovery of uranium mineralization in Mt Eclipse Sandstone both in areas of outcrop and suboutcrop, following the discovery of uranium mineralization within this unit on ELs 605, 453 and 402. The work completed on EL 551 gave the following results: (a) Water bore sampling results proved difficult to interpret because it was never clear from which aquifer the water was coming, (b) Ground radiometry over Mt. Eclipse Sandstone, Kerridy Sandstone and the Vaughan Springs Quartzite revealed no anomalous radioactivity, (c) Two separate airborne radiometric surveys located no anomalies, (d) Auger drilling in the south-west corner of the exploration license obtained no anomalous radioactivity, (e) An interpretive geological map of the exploration license has been compiled, (f) 1:25,000 scale regional geological mapping of the exploration license has been completed on the Mt. Eclipse Sandstone on the exploration license which tentatively correlated with Unit 4 of the Mt Eclipse Sandstone, (g) A regional Track Etch survey revealed two large south to south-westerly trending anomalies containing 4 high radon single point anomalies, (h) Close spaced track etch over the 4 high radon single point anomalies more closely outlined areas of high radon, (i) Percussion drilling of the radon 'highs' showed sequences of yellow-brown sandy clays and reddish shales. No reason for the radon highs was observed and no anomalous radioactivity was discovered in any of the 10 holes drilled. Further exploration within the exploration license for uranium mineralization would be highly speculative and it is recommended that the exploration license be relinquished.en_US
