dc.description.abstract | United Uranium is exploring the vicinity of the Mary River Copper Mine. The lode occurs along the brecciated contact between shales and quartzites. Malachite and chalcocite are the most abundant ore minerals visible on dumps. Limestone outcrops to the northwest. Drilling has shown this continues at depth. Work in the reporting period included gridded soil sampling on 200 feet centres which gave only low order copper anomalies, some of which may be contamination resulting from surface drainage from the workings. An EM survey was completed over the entire grid. Two well defined conductors were mapped. An angled diamond drillhole was sited to test the dip of the ore horizon. The ore level was not intersected at the calculated target depth of 130 feet TVD and the hole was advanced beneath the old workings to 405 feet 10 inches drill depth in entirely barren brecciated and cavernous limestone. Either the ore interval lenses out within feet of the surface, it coincided with a cavernous zone or it dips the other way. Further work was postponed pending a magnetometer survey. EL 1608 expired 26/08/1967 on its first anniversary. | en_US |
