Bulk density and magnetic susceptibility data from core samples of the Birrindudu Basin region and McArthur Basin - Part 2

Title: Bulk density and magnetic susceptibility data from core samples of the Birrindudu Basin region and McArthur Basin - Part 2
Author: Grosjean, E; Denman, J; Wang, L; Anderson, J; Jorgensen, D
Abstract: This report presents new bulk density and magnetic susceptibility data on core samples from 11 legacy drill cores collected at the Northern Territory Geological Survey core repository in Alice Springs and Darwin in 2025. These data form part of a broader drill core analytical program undertaken within the Birrindudu Deep Dive region, including drill holes from the McArthur Basin. The Birrindudu Deep Dive covers multiple geological provinces of varying age and assesses their potential to support economically sustainable resources, agriculture, and social outcomes for regional and remote communities. This project is delivered under the Resourcing Australia's Prosperity initiative, which supports Australia's long-term resource security and transition to net zero by 2050 by providing enhanced pre-competitive geoscience data, scientific analysis and decision-support tools to underpin resource exploration and the responsible management of Australia's resources.

Characterization of graphite bearing samples from the Northern Territory : Mineralogy and peak temperature assessment

Title: Characterization of graphite bearing samples from the Northern Territory : Mineralogy and peak temperature assessment
Author: Delle Piane, C; Perera, S; Owen, N; Anderson, J; Denman, J; Wang, L; Jorgensen, D; Grosjean, E
Abstract: This study was commissioned by Geoscience Australia as part of the Resourcing Australia's Prosperity initiative to ground-truth the occurrence of graphite and to provide new data on the nature, distribution and thermal evolution of carbonaceous matter within core samples from four Northern Territory drill holes (MDD003, SMRD001, TCDD002 and LMDH8) through integrated mineralogical, petrographic and Raman spectroscopic analysis. The objectives of the work were to quantify the mineralogy of the selected samples, their graphite content and to infer the maximum temperature conditions experienced by the rocks. The analytical program included the following data acquisition:; Quantitative mineralogy via X-ray diffraction on bulk samples and < 2mm separated fraction; Imaging of petrographic thin section; Acquisition of Raman spectra from carbonaceous material dispersed in the rock samples; Deconvolution of the Raman spectra and estimation of peak temperature experienced by the selected rocks.

Title: U-Pb SHRIMP results from the Birrindudu Basin region, Northern Territory, 2025-2026
Author: Kositcin, N; Anderson, JR; Munson, T
Abstract: This Record presents new Sensitive High Resolution Ion Micro Probe (SHRIMP) U-Pb zircon and monazite geochronology for fourteen drillhole and outcrop samples from the Palaeo-Mesoproterozoic Birrindudu Basin and its underlying metamorphosed basement in the northwestern Northern Territory, generated as part of Geoscience Australia's Birrindudu Deep Dive (BDD) project under the Resourcing Australia's Prosperity initiative. The results substantially improve chronostratigraphic controls on poorly constrained basal successions of the Birrindudu Basin, provide new insights into the age, provenance, and evolution of the basin and metamorphosed basement, and strengthen correlations to adjacent provinces that host major mineral and energy resources.
