Data Quality and Status

Lineage:

The first edition Huckitta geological map was released in 1964, the second edition was released in 1982. The 3rd edition Huckitta map used the earlier data as a base. This was complemented by geological mapping fieldwork, literature research, thin section petrography, geochemical analysis, geochronology, structural analysis, and geophysical interpretation. This was complemented by fieldwork, literature research, thin section petrography, geochemical analysis, geochronology, structural analysis, and geophysical interpretation.

Mapping utilised the following resources: ArcGIS Pro World Imagery (Sources: Esri, DigitalGlobe, GeoEye, i-cubed, USDA FSA, USGS, AEX, Getmapping, Aerogrid, IGN, IGP, swisstopo, and the GIS User Community).

The dataset is comprised of several layers including outcrop lithology, faults, folds, linear features, geochronology, structural data, and mineral occurrences.

Positional Accuracy: 15 to 100 metres

Spatial Resolution: Mapped at 1:100,000 to produce 1:250,000 map

Attribute Accuracy:

Variable, high accuracy of attributes in areas visited (ie most outcropping geology), lower accuracy in those areas not visited. The geochronological data comes from samples analysed by geochronologists from Geoscience Australia, NTGS, researchers and analytical laboratories operating in collaboration with NTGS, and from published literature; dataset has been checked against the original source. All mineral occurrences are attributed by metallogenic geologists with experience in the Northern Territory; some attributes (eg model) are interpretative rather that descriptive. Geochemical analysis is performed by laboratories to set standards. Standard uncertainty on structural measurements is 1 degree. Compass directions are quoted with respect to Grid North.
