Dear Belinda,

I am sorry for the delay in delivering this information. I have attached a spreadsheet which is accurate to my knowledge. Please overwrite previous coordinates as they are erroneous. I have already sent this through to Tim Hutchins, but it must not have been updated, or there are duplicate copies?

The collars were picked up using a hand held GPS. The accuracy of these instruments varies but I would allow up to 5m variation. Note that holes MURD005 to 007 have not been rechecked since drilling, although they would fall within the 5m margin of error in any case. Holes MURD005 to 010 were not part of the Round 1 Collaborative Drilling program, however, we included the core as it was of interest to the NTGS geologists.

If you have any further enquiries or if there is a problem with these coordinates please let me know and we will try to help.

Regards,

Dave

Subject: MURD HOLES - differences in coordinates from reporting

Hi David,

Annette suggested you were the contact person to clarify some confusion I have with supplied coordinates for the MURD series holes that were drilled as part of the Round 1 and Round 2 Collaborations drilling programmes.  I have found that all the holes (except MURD002) have coordinate discrepancies and I’m not sure what is correct.  Attached are the coordinates taken from the Collaborations reports (tables in the reports); spreadsheets attached to the reports plus comparison against the scanned core submission forms.

I am trying to make sure that all coordinates are ‘correct’ so that errors aren’t propagated into the HyLogger NVCL database or the corporate database and also to make sure that other NTGS staff are confident that they are using the most accurate coordinates.

The holes are marked as surveyed by handheld GPS.  However, it’s not clear what the level of accuracy is (ie; is it +/- 2m?? or 20m??).  Also, are the coordinates planned, or were the holes surveyed after drilling?

Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated, so that errors aren’t propagated and to alleviate confusion.

Thanks,
