Fourteen rotary percussion drill holes, totaling 1308 metres, were drilled in order to test two areas of weakly anomalous radioactivity previously outlined by vehicle/foot spectrometer traverses. The drilling was also designed to test for strike extensions of anomalous uranium concentrations delineated to the south of the licence area. The fourteen holes were spaced 200 metres apart on two traverses (7 holes per traverse); collar locations are shown on the attached plan. All holes were vertical. Samples of drill cuttings were collected every two metres and then split and logged. The drilling encountered a sequence of sandstones which were generally calcareous and which contained minor gravel and pebble beds. All drill holes were logged for gamma-ray response. The logging revealed only weak radiometric anomalies up, to a maximum of approximately, two times background in two holes. These weak anomalies show a reasonable correlation with very weak redox boundaries located within the sandstone sequence. Although the level of radioactivity encountered in the downhole logging indicated that no significant concentrations of uranium were intersected in the drillholes, selected samples from holes RPH 5, 6, 9 and 10 were submitted for assay for uranium and thorium. No further work is planned within the licence area for the remainder of 1981.en_US
